I've spent the evening researching the Poitras Commission
Things are much worse than I thought. And everyone in Quebec has known this. Journalists know it. The people know it. Jacques Dupuis - the current minister of public security, then justice critic for the opposition - has known it for ten years.
Poitras spent $30 million of tax payers' money on an inquiry. The final recommendation was to reign-in the Surete du Quebec. But when the PQ government converted the recommendation to a bill, they went soft on the issue.
$30 million down the drain. Nothing has changed. The Surete du Quebec answer to no one. They are arrogant, incompetent and lack professionalism. They have always been this way. And no one wants this to change.
