Slouching Towards Cyber Monday

As we approach that time of year when many people review their list for making charity donations it would be greatly appreciated if consideration is given to the "Theresa Allore Memorial Fund".

This fund will provide a scholarship to a student at Champlain College in Lennoxville, Quebec, who exemplifies the qualities of a "Total Person", including academic achievement, active participation in campus life, and financial need.

A receipt for a charitable donation will be forwarded to Canadian Benefactors for the tax year in which the donation has been made.

Make cheque payable to : Foundation Champlain - Lennoxville Inc.
and note on the memo line of the cheque : Contribution to the Theresa Allore Memorial Fund.

Scholarship Update - Big Money

Ok, admittedly I put a lot of crap up there on that last Ebay round. None of it sold (ok, some of it sold... the tarot cards (thanks again Sandy!))

Here's the good news, an old family friend came thru with a big donation, and many of you came thru with a bunch of little donations, which is much appreciated.  We have now topped $5,000!

Yeah!!!!!
To be precise we're at $5,300, that's enough to perpetually provide a $250 scholarship, but I'm a little more ambitious than that, and I think Theresa is worth more than a $250 scholarship. Forgoing for a moment the original goal of $20,000, can we at least try to reach $10,000 by the new year?

If you haven't yet donated to Theresa's scholarship endowment please consider a gift this Thanks Giving. If you've contributed, then give again! There are three simple ways to do so.

1.  The easiest is to simply click on the "Donate" button on the upper-right of your screen. This will take you to a Paypal screen where you can pay by credit card.

2.   Benefactors from Canada may contact:

I was already having a good day

... and then Theresa's friends sent me these pictures:

1977: In a David Bowie t-shirt

At the David Bowie concert in Montreal

Someone's kitty (the police still have that ring)

New Perm

I could never figure this photo out until I noticed the towels, and...

realized they had all gone swimming...

Theresa invited some children in her apartment building...

A very 70s look

Ebay for a cause goes Retro!

We have more items for sale on Ebay for the Theresa Allore Memorial Fund. 100% of the proceeds go toward starting the endowment.

Gypsy Witch Fortune Telling Cards

Antique design deck of 52 cards with minature cards in the upper left corners and descriptive pictures with meanings in the remaining portions of the cards. Based on the French Mystic Mlle Le Normand.
These belonged to Theresa, if you never knew she was highly into the Occult... Spooky...

Hodge-Podge of memorabilia

- Theresa's Kodak X-15 Instamatic camera which she used to take MANY pictures (winning bidder gets a selection of reproductions of her photos if you'd like). Still works! I used it in '77 to take this photo:

- A swizzle stick from a Montreal disco from the 70s! Le Tube: I believe it was on St. Catherines. Anyway, the stick says, "Le Tube - Restaurant Bar Discotheque"

- Two Outdoor Candles (anyone know the story behind these? Please let me know)

Vintage Pins and Buttons

1. Vintage McDonald's pin, "Ask me about this week's Happy Cup"... from when my sister, Theresa worked at McDonald's

2. Vanier-Snowdon CEGEP / College 1977 Winter Carnival pin

3. Pierrefonds Comprehensive High School 1973 Winter Carnvial pin

4. "Je Suis EleKtrik"... I have no idea what this is... anybody know?

Vintage Clothing!

Vintage 1970's JEAN NICOLAS OF PARIS "MODEL CREE A PARIS" GIRLS TOP SET (size: teen / small)
Spaghetti strap top with matching vest thingee. 100% cotton.

This was very much something Theresa wore. (A little wrinkly... I know, I could have ironed it)

Vintage Sweater!

Beautiful Vintage 1970's Pierre Cardin Cashmere Sweater (size: teen / small).

I believe this was a Christmas present. I don't know how much it was worn.

I would stress that the size is small. My 11-year-old daughter would fit into it.

We did very well with our first Ebay auction for the Theresa Allore Memorial Endowment.

The Bob Dylan Poster & David Bowie picture went to someone in Brazil for  $31.

But the real story are the three Archie Comics that went to a friend of Theresa's for a whopping $62!!!

That's $91 towards building the scholarship endowment! Thanks so much for your participation.

Chapel Hill Comics Chips In!

I am delighted that my friends at Chapel Hill Comics have made a bid on the charitable auction bringing the bid up to $56!!!!!

I'm pretty sure they don't need these Archie comics, so I thank them for the support they are lending.

For my friends who don't know Chapel Hill Comics, it's simply the most fun place:

Here is a picture of my kids from their 24 hour event: Create Your Own Comic:

They are always doing great stuff for the community.

Thanks Andrew and Vanessa!

Back to Work - Ebay for Endowment

Ok, so we have 2 Ebay auctions going on for the Theresa Allore Memorial Endowment. 100% of all winning proceeds go towards the scholarship fund named in Theresa's honor.

The Bob Dylan Poster:  4 bids, 3 watchers... high bid is $30

Well done, though we're not there yet, these things go for approx. $70 so I have high hopes for this one. FYI: Theresa was a big Dylan fan. I still have her LP of Blood on the Tracks (I'm not parting with it so don't even ask)

The three Archie Comics:  13 bids, 1 watcher... high bid $51.

SAY WHAT?????  $51 for these?  I thank you, I thank you so much... I think our work is pretty much done on this item.

On the election trail

UPDATE:

On the election trail I spotted this guy at the corner of Garrett road in Durham:

Yes, that's a live Donkey along side the Senator from Illinois.

**************************
Out for my afternoon jog I stopped in on Mike Ashe of the Durham Board of Elections. Wished him a good day as Mike is an avid jogger, but obviously no time for it today.

Theresa Allore: October 12, 1959 - November 3, 1978

30 Reasons why you shouldn't have died:

30.   Because no one laughed quite like you, it was completely absorbing and infectious.

29.   Your friends still miss you, We have heard from Debbie and Sue J...  Haidy, Terry, Janice and Kathleen.

28.   Minkee misses you too (we're sorry we poked the eyes out already).

27.   We've no one to call "fartface" or "fartbag" or plain old "farty".

26.   You should have experienced The Clash, New Order, The Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead, The White Stripes... We could go on-and-on...

25.    Someone got away with your murder: that is wrong.

24.   You should have experienced the pleasure of ragging on the Surete du Quebec, which Andre and I engage in quite often, and with great hilarity. And we would have done it even if you hadn't died... they're such buffoons, they can't help themselves.

23.   Sure we kid about the police, but that just us being kids. We respect them and need them to solve your murder.

22.   We could have used your vote in the last election.

21.   You would have hated Adam Sandler, but Sacha Baron Cohen would have been right up your alley:  Funny, sharp, sexy.

20.   Also, Dave Chapelle was like a return to the Carol Burnett Show, only with bad language: you'd have enjoyed that too.

19.   No one round here knows what Juicy Jellies are anymore.

18.   I can't remember.

17.   I can't remember.

16.   Playing Careers, Clue, Masterpiece, Milles Bornes, Monoploy, Ramoli was fun with you. You played to win, which is why I always cheated.

15.   The Expos left Montreal, did you hear that?

14.   To the person that did this: you broke her parents' hearts, I hope it was worth it for you.

13.   Christmas' just aren't the same: I experience chronic ADD around the holidays.

12.   You would have have had children by now, possibly grandchildren... we were denied that.

11.   You would have made a significant contribution to society, you were denied that.

10.   We can't forget going to get you at the morgue.

9.   What are we going do with all your junk? If you were here this would be your problem.

8.   Congratulations: Merriam-Webster now officially recognizes "brung" as a slang past participle of "bring".

7.   Apart for the occasional hit David Bowie has mostly sucked for the last 30 years. You were wise to jump-off prior to Let's Dance... yuck.

6.   Kiss became a huge rock-n-roll phenomena: you could have stopped that.

5.   I can't remember.

4.  To the community: we need your help. It take real courage to come forward after all this time. Muster it.

3.   You made a great grilled cheese sandwich.

2.   Parents shouldn't outlive their children.

1.   You murder shouldn't remain unsolved after 30 years.
